Best of the 90s

The 90s were an amazing time for music, television shows, and social action - but also for a boom in cool and epic movies which still have impact today.

If you haven't heard the quote "I see dead people, they're everywhere.." then you truly have been living under a rock for the last 20 years. Back when Shyamalan was a respected director, he made one of the most iconic thriller films in history, with a twist that blew audiences away and caused jaws to drop. Young boy Cole (Haley Joel Osment) needs famed psychologist Malcolm (Bruce Willis) to help him with his unique issue - he can see ghosts.

2. Dazed and Confused; Richard Linklater (1993) Click here to see trailer

The title really does say it all - set in the rock n roll times of the 70s featuring all the teen angst, music, stoner-lingo, and sex you would imagine. Following a group of teens on their last day of school, and their realisation of how the real world works when they attend a huge pool party and more. Churning out massive Hollywood stars into the limelight, this film has now become a very quotable cult classic.

3. The Blair Witch Project; Eduardo Sanchez (1999) Click here to see trailer

The found footage film that started it all! This home-made film with a miniscule budget and no script made history as one of the best and most original cult horror films, inspiring some less than historic sequels. A group of friends head into American wilderness in the search of the Blair Witch, in the hopes of capturing her on camera and creating a documentary. But, they quickly find out that the stories might actually be true as they're taunted by cackling, stick-dolls, and piles of rocks. Yes it is scarier than it sounds, and put a whole generation off of camping.

4. Titanic; James Cameron (1997) Click here to see trailer

When you hear the words 'epic movies' this is the first one that should pop into your head. Now more than 20 years old this film hasn't aged a day, still capturing the hearts and the tear ducts of audiences young and old. This is the true story of the largest cruise liner ever built - and it's very fast demise killing more than 1500 people. Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) chases wealthy and aloof Rose (Kate Winslet) when a chance encounter sees them experience each other's lifestyles and fall in love.

5. A Bug's Life; John Lasseter (1998) Click here to see trailer

Flik is an ant who wants more from life - he's creative, brave, and adventurous but his peers aren't a fan of his unique ways and sends him off to the big city in the hopes he won't return. But not only does he return, he brings a gang of circus misfits to help battle against the terrifying crickets which taunt the ant's nest. This movie is hilarious and adorably animated, and in my opinion a far too underrated Disney classic. Not to be confused with the bizarre and sub-par, Antz.

6. Sleepy Hollow; Tim Burton (1999) Click here to see trailer

Darkness, blood, magic, nightmares, and historical drama, are some good ways to describe this film. In true Tim Burton style this is equal parts terrifying and hilarious, with Johnny Depp in one of his best performances. Set in the 1700s following Ichabod Crane in his quest to solve crimes, rather than just guess who dunnit. He is brought to a creepy town experience mass hysteria as a headless figure indiscriminately murders people.

7. Pulp Fiction; Quentin Tarantino (1994) Click here to see trailer

One of the most quotable movies of all time, this film makes crime seem cool. With drugs, sex, murder, and philosophical debates it's often described as the movie that can't be faulted. A pair of hitmen (Samuel L. Jackson & John Travolta) go about their daily business, spread between stories of their counterparts.

Yes, this movie is dismally cheesy and cringeworthy - but brings back such a sense of nostalgia no one seems to care! Three witches were hanged in Salem back during the witch trials, but vow to come back from the dead - which they're able to do with the help of two unsuspecting children.
