Ryan Gosling

Another one of my favourite actors who is both handsome and versatile, Ryan Gosling.

I can barely watch the trailer to this film without feeling the same sadness as watching the whole thing. This is not your typical movie, and similarly to 500 Days of Summer it is 'not a love story, it's a story about love'. Young Cindy (Michelle Williams) is pregnant with another mans' baby when she meets Dean (Ryan Gosling) who quickly falls in love with her and fights for her affection. The film flashes back between their early romance, and their current life together in which Dean is still having to fight for her love.

2. The Nice Guys; Shane Black Click here to see trailer
This film was hilarious, mysterious, thrilling, and topped off with the cool retro 1970s setting. Failing private detective and single dad Holland (Ryan Gosling) must work with his enemy Jackson (Russell Crowe) to solve the mystery of a missing girl and the death of a famous porn star. The mismatched pair get into more trouble than they could bargain for when they get on the wrong side of their criminal associates.

3. Lars and the Real Girl; Nancy Oliver Click here to see trailer

Quiet and strange Lars (Ryan Gosling) struggles to find companionship, but surprises his family when he brings home a girl. But, Bianca isn't an ordinary girl - she is a lifelike sex doll. Lars genuinely believes her to be real, and his family is recommended to go along with his delusion until he is ready to move on.

4. Drive; Nicolas Winding Refn Click here to see trailer

This is definitely one of my favourite movies ever - for it's perfect balance of beautiful cinematography, nostalgic soundtrack, a little romance, and heinous violence. Talented mechanic and stunt double for films, 'Driver' (Ryan Gosling) is employed by thieves to be their getaway driver. When he meets sweet single mother Irene (Carey Mulligan) they begin a relationship but are interrupted by the return of her husband who's been in prison. His prison debts quickly catch up to him, and his family's safety is put in jeopardy. Driver is happy to help, but things don't go according to plan and bullets (and hammers) start flying.

5. Lala Land; Damien Chazelle Click here to see trailer

Critics and the awards associations are loving this original, bright, romantic musical, and loving Gosling's singing and dancing as jazz enthusiast, Sebastian. Sebastian isn't doing so well in Hollywood, until he meets Mia (Emma Stone) - a budding actress who also can't seem to catch a break. The pair fall in love and attempt to live out their dreams together. The original soundtrack is quite good, and the wardrobe is to die for - although I wasn't completely sold on this film as a whole but enjoyed it for Ryan Gosling's charm all the same.

6. The Place Beyond the Pines; Derek Cianfrance Click here to see trailer

By the same director as Blue Valentine you can expect this film to be just as depressing and emotional. Young bike rider Luke (Ryan Gosling) finds out an old fling (Eva Mendes) has had a baby and it is his. In order to provide for them he turns to a life of robing banks, and although it seems like he will earn a lot of money this way and get away with it, he soon gets caught. The movie then shows the aftermath of this, including the effects it has on the officer (Bradley Cooper).

7. The Big Short; Adam McKay Click here to see trailer

If you enjoyed The Wolf of Wallstreet you might also like this film. Based off of the true story of when a group (Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Steve Carell) of investors decide to bet against the banks of America in the hopes of the economy collapsing - many dismissed their ideas as ridiculous. But the group is smarter than they seem and make huge profits off of the global economy crisis.

8. Gangster Squad; Ruben Fleischer Click here to see trailer

In the 1940s notorious gangster, Mickey Cohen, (Sean Penn) takes over Las Angeles and commits a series of awful crimes. Authorities secretly employ a group of cops to go to war with Cohen and his gang. Sergeant Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling) is one of these cops, and falls for one of Cohen's escorts, Grace (Emma Stone).
