For the Nerds

Whether it be with social awkwardness, fantasy or intellect; these films were made for the nerd in all of us.

Film director Carl Denham (Jack Black) takes his crew to a forgotten and hidden island, but little do they know the true dangers of this place. The lead actress Ann (Naomi Watts) is abducted but the inhabitants of the island and offered as a prize to the giant and terrifying King Kong - but the monster is misunderstood and Ann fights to save him from persecution.

2. The Social Network; David Fincher Click here to see trailer
It's the website we have all heard of and by far the most successful social media to date, turning a young college graduate into one of the top 5 wealthiest people on the planet. This film chronicles the inception of The Facebook by socially awkward Mark Zuckaberg and how he burned a few bridges on his way to create the empire, ultimately being sued by his best friend.

3. Beowulf; Robert Zemeckis Click here to see trailer
When this film first came out, the graphics were so profoundly good I found it hard to believe it was animated, and a fantasy epic like I'd never imagined before. A badass warrior Beowulf (Ray Winstone) offers to rid a kingdom of a demon which plagues them, but when he does this he upsets the monster's mother (Angelina Jolie) - beautiful and seductive but just as dangerous.

4. Batman Begins; Christopher Nolan Click here to see trailer
This post-9/11 retelling of Batman shows a much darker, epic, and suave Bruce Wayne than we'd ever seen before. The budding super hero and multi-millionaire (Christian Bale) travels to the far east to be trained by the mysterious League of Shadows, but the team aren't what he hoped for and he must now fight to save his home, Gotham City.

5. Steve Jobs; Danny Boyle Click here to see trailer
I couldn't imagine a fast-paced, action packed, thrilling, and emotional story about the invention of a computer by a mean and pushy hippy - but here it is. This film follows the release of some of Apple's revolutionary first computers by founder, Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender), and how he becomes a billionaire, father, and figurehead of one of the worlds largest companies.

6. Jurassic World; Colin Trevorrow Click here to see trailer
"You just went and made a new dinosaur? Probably not a good idea" is the quote from this film which sums up the entire plot. A theme park in Costa Rica allows for people to view and interact with a species once thought extinct; dinosaurs. But as the scientists at the facility develop new ways to excite and attract visitors, the create something known as the Indominus Rex, and as you can imagine it all goes wrong. Animal expert Owen (Chris Pratt) must put his skills to use in order to save lives.

7. Robin Hood; Ridley Scott Click here to see trailer
This is the tale we all know and love, of the man who fights for those who have nothing. Robin (Russell Crowe), a skilled archer, travels to Nottingham where the villages are being tortured by the corrupt sheriff and his nasty laws. Robin fights to save the village and soon realises the fight is bigger than he thought.

8. Guardians of the Galaxy; James Gunn Click here to see trailer
Another cool and exciting film starring Chris Pratt, this time as space outlaw Star Lord. When a powerful villain is destroying homes and torturing civillians, Star Lord and his team of misfits attempt to save the universe. This movie is just as funny as it is action-packed, with an awesome soundtrack to boot.
