Laugh Out Loud

Laughter is the best medicine. We all need to sit down and put aside good taste to watch a silly comedy every now and then.

1. Walk Hard; Jake Kasdan Click here to see trailer

Clearly a spoof of Johnny Cash's film Walk the Line, and the entire music industry throughout the ages, this film has excellent music tracks as well as side stitching laughs. After a tragedy in his childhood cursing him with smell-blindness, Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly) makes a name for himself in the music industry. With many references to the greats like The Beatles and Jim Morrison, and a hectic romance with backup singer Darlene (Jenna Fischer) this film is as clever as it is hilarious.

2. The Lego Movie; Chris Miller and Phil Lord Click here to see trailer

Emmett (Chris Pratt) is forced to leave his mundane and repetitive life and fight against evil millionaire, President Business (Will Ferrell) who is threatening to glue everyone together so they will stay the same forever. With a huge array of stars voicing the huge array of Lego characters we all know and love, this movie is a step back into childhood - and a hilarious one at that.

3. The Hot Chick; Tom Brady Click here to see trailer

This movie can be described as both awful, and hilarious - and with 21% on Rotten Tomatoes this can best count as a guilty pleasure. When popular Jessica Spencer (Rachel McAdams) is cursed by a pair of earrings she swaps bodies with a sleazy crook, Clive (Rob Schneider). The teen in a man's body now must get her own body back before prom, and navigate life with the excessive body hair and other male appendages she now has.

4. The Campaign; Jay Roach Click here to see trailer

Congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) has become used to running unopposed for office, but when business tyrants introduce an unlikely dim-witted competitor, Marty Higgins (Zach Galifianakis), it is a fight to the death. Get ready for butt jokes, a baby being punched in the face, and a wicked scar from a death-trap school slide, but most of all the laughs.

5. The Big Lebowski; Joel and Ethan Coen Click here to see trailer

Stoner, drinker, and bowler Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) is mistaken for a millionaire of the same name whose wife owes a lot of money to many dangerous people. When friend Walter (John Goodman) finds out, he insists on stealing even more money off of these dangerous people, causing The Dude even more grief. This film is hilarious, curious and trippy, and definitely my favourite from the Coens Brothers.

6. Be Kind, Rewind; Michel Gondry Click here to see trailer

When a video store clerk Mike's (Mos Def) strange friend (Jack Black) accidentally erases all of the videos, the pair act fast to recreate the most popular titles like Ghost Busters and Boys in the Hood. Their films seem to be more popular than the original versions, attracting the attention from the FBI for copyright infringements.

7. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues; Click here to see trailer

Famous newsman Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) is offered a spot on the worlds first 24 hour channel GNN, along with his team. The team struggles to gain the ratings they had expected and we follow the trials of their love life, family life, and rivalry with other networks. The first Anchorman is pretty great too, but the second nearly had me in tears laughing.

8. Step Brothers; Adam McKay Click here to see trailer

Another comedy gem from Will Ferrel, Brennan and Dale are nearly 40 years old and have still not moved out of home. When their parents marry and move in together they instantly despise each other. But when they realise they are best friends they begin causing trouble, and push their mom and dad to their wits end! Many years after seeing this film it is still so quotable and lovable in my house.
