A Bit Naughty

This list of movies make 50 Shades of Grey seem tame, by exploring humanities darkest secrets...

Based on the true story of the made who shook up the world of sex, Alfred Kinsey (Liam Neeson). The respected biology professor and unofficial counselor sees a decrease in the knowledge surrounding human sexuality when his students, often already married and with children, come to him seeking answers to some embarrassing questions. He then starts teaching sex education courses but because of its graphic nature, controversy ensues.

2. Nymphomaniac: Volume I; Lars von Trier Click here to see trailer

Prepare to be shocked and appalled, disgusted and horrified, and entertained. This is the first of two parts about a woman, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), who finds herself retelling her life story to a quiet and lonely old man. Joe confesses she is a nymphomaniac, and has been since a young age - sleeping with anyone and everyone in an attempt to rebel against the idea of love. But love finds her anyway, when old fling Jerome (Shia LaBeouf) becomes her boss. The sex scenes in this film are real, and extremely graphic, but the intrigue of the story make it bearable. But my advice would be not to watch the second volume as this balance disappears, and some lovely characters are ruined.

3. Election; Alexander Payne Click here to see trailer

Tracey Flick (Reese Witherspoon) is the obsessive, dramatic, over-achiever that we all love to hate, who is running for school president and will stop at nothing to get her what she wants. When lovable teacher (Matthew Broderick) learns of her questionable ethics and morals, a bitter feud between the two are born.

4. Black Swan; Darren Aronofsky Click here to see trailer

Nina (Natalie Portman) takes her profession as a ballerina very seriously, so seriously that when her lead role is threatened in the upcoming performance of Swan Lake, she starts to lose her mind. This film is a lot more than simply ballet, it has sex, drugs, and a creepily overprotective mother, as well as Mila Kunis to gawk at.

5. Brokeback Mountain; Ang Lee Click here to see trailer

This film has been poked fun at quite a lot, but those people who giggle at the idea of two cowboys falling in love mustn't have seen this surprisingly bittersweet and touching movie. Set in the 60s when love between two men was basically forbidden, cowboys Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) are forced to spend time together in the mountains herding sheep. The more time they spend together, the more they realise their attraction growing - and have to balance the 'normal' life with their wives and children, and their secret affair.

6. American Beauty; Sam Mendes Click here to see trailer

This is the story of how a mundane life in the suburbs can go strangely wrong. When Lester (Kevin Spacey) is fed up with his job, his wife, and his entire existence he reinvents himself, quitting his job and falling for his teenage daughter's best friend.

7. Shame; Steve McQueen Click here to see trailer

This sullen movie follows sex addicted Brandon (Michael Fassbender) attempting to hide yet still indulge his sexual fantasies. When his strange and needy sister (Carey Mulligan) comes to stay he is forced to realise he may have a problem! Not only is this movie serious and humanistic, it offers the chance to see Michael Fassbender's doodle.

8. Hysteria; Tanya Wexler Click here to see trailer

ln Victorian England there was a psychological crisis, women were diagnosed as 'hysteric' and treated with orgasm. That is until doctor Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy) invents the vibrator. This film is slightly bizarre, and mildly creepy - making light of the seriousness of how women were treated in the wake of psychotherapy.
