Netflix has become the new way to watch TV and movies, but sometimes it can be a struggle to find something worth watching. Here are some winners on Netflix NZ...

1. Making a Murderer; Laura Ricciardi & Moira Demos Click here to see trailer

This documentary series will have you cheering or jeering at the screen - with more plot twists, cliffhangers, heroes and villains, than could ever be in a scripted TV series! This is the true account of Wisconsin man, Steven Avery, and his fight to be freed from being wrongly imprisoned - not once, but twice. The first time he was in prison for 18 years for a rape he didn't commit, the second time for murder. The lawyers, the judge, the police officers, the family, the scientists, all play huge parts in what seems to be a conspiracy to lock away Steven for good.

2. Crazy, Stupid, Love; Glenn Ficarra & John Requa Click here to see trailer

When nerdy, sweet, Cal's (Steve Carell) seemingly perfect life crumbles beneath him after his wife cheats, he meets playboy Jacob (Ryan Gosling) who helps him turn his style and love-life around. This film is not all laughs, it has some tender moments, some heart-wrenching acting, and some twists you won't see coming.

3. Walk the Line; James Mangold Click here to see trailer

Based on the life of infamous musician, Johnny Cash, Joaquin Pheonix plays the part, and sings the songs, impeccably. This movie chronicles the events which made him a success, starting as a small boy living on a farm, the struggles he had with his family, drugs, and relationships, and the eventually happy ending with singer June Carter (Reese Witherspoon).

4. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy; Garth Jennings Click here to see trailer

This strange, dark comedy, begins with a very normal day in the life of Arthur Dent (Martin Freeman). Then all goes horribly wrong with aliens destroying planet Earth to make way for a new expressway for space travel. Arthur is saved by his best friend (Mos Def) who is secretly also an alien, and the pair travel throughout the universe to find somewhere safe to call home.

5. The Fundamentals of Caring; Rob Burnett Click here to see trailer

Ben (Paul Rudd) seems to not be doing very well - his wife is asking for a divorce, he's stopped writing, and he has no experience in the job he has just applied for, taking care of a teen who has a disability. Although tricky at first, Ben and Trevor (Craig Roberts) form a close bond and embark on a road trip together to see America's lamest roadside attractions. This film is funny and genuine, with some Paul Rudd classic straight-faced humour.

6. The Woman in Black; James Watkins Click here to see trailer

Recently widowed lawyer Arthur (Daniel Radcliffe) is sent to a remote village in the marshes which holds some terrible and frightening secrets. Arthur slowly discovers the house in haunted by a woman in black, and fights to discover who she is and what she wants with him. This film contains some excellent jump-scares, and some post-Harry Pottter acting from a matured Radcliffe.

7. Fargo; Ethan & Joel Coen Click here to see trailer

This is supposedly a true story, yet some have debunked this theory, of Jerry Lundegaard - a car salesman so desperate for money that he hires two men to kidnap his own wife and to take the reward for himself. This plan goes haywire, when the local state trooper, who is also heavily pregnant, is more quick-witted than the thugs and Jerry, and starts to become suspicious.

8. We're the Millers; Rawson Marshall Thurber Click here to see trailer

This comedy/action is actually enjoyable - despite what the ratings say. This film follows four misfits on their quest to fool authorities and smuggle into America a tonne of marijuana. In order to do this, they need to pretend to be a family, which ends up bringing them close together.
