The 2000's

Here is a mixed bag list of some of the best films to come out of the 2000's..

1. A Knight's Tale; Brian Helgeland (2001) Click here to see trailer

Peasant William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) and his gang of humble misfits enter the jousting tournament in order to win the heart of a lovely maiden (Shannyn Sossamon). But not without trouble, as a jealous contender seeks to ruin any chances William has to win. This film is funny and sweet, and will rock your socks off with an awesome soundtrack.

2. Wanted; Timur Bekmambetov (2008) Click here to see trailer

Remove all logic and scientific truths from your mind and enjoy this exciting film. Mindless and bored office worker Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) is confronted by Fox (Angelina Jolie) who tells him his father was the worlds greatest assassin. Wesley now must fill his father's shoes, and is trained by boss Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Bending bullets, healing wax, and jealous ex-girlfriends, this is one  of the very few actions I have ever enjoyed.

3. View from the Top; Bruno Barreto (2003) Click here to see trailer

Although this film's reviews are terrible, it is a sweet and funny watch, one of my old time guilty pleasures. A young woman, Donna, (Gwyneth Paltrow) is dumped by her boyfriend and makes a life changing decision to fulfil her dream of becoming a first class flight attendant. This is not an easy task though, considering she has never even been on an aeroplane before.

4. Slumdog Millionaire; Danny Boyle (2008) Click here to see trailer

18 year old Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) is blowing audiences and the producers' minds as he aces the Indian version of television show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. When the host begins to suspect he is cheating, Jamal tells the stories behind each question, proving that he in fact knows all of the answers, and that it is his destiny to win the money, and the love of his long lost friend. This movie is sad, romantic and triumphant.

5. The Emperor's New Groove; Mark Dindal (2000) Click here to see trailer

This film had my brother and I in stitches every time, it is hilarious and slightly out of the ordinary. Arrogant and almost-evil Emperor Kuzco (David Spade) is accidentally turned into a llama when his advisor Yzma (Eartha Kitt) and her minion Kronk (Patrick Warburton) try to kill him. Stranded in the jungle, Kuzco begrudgingly accepts the help from a loving peasant and begins to realise his arrogant ways.

6. Juno; Jason Reitman (2007) Click here to see trailer

This is quirky comedy has touched a lot of people for its realistic style and feel-good qualities. Teen Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) falls pregnant to geeky Tic-Tac loving Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera) and surprises everybody. She then decides to adopt out her baby to an ideal and wealthy young couple, but begins to discover they're not as perfect as she had originally thought.

7. I am Legend; Francis Lawrence (2007) Click here to see trailer

A brilliant scientist Robert Neville (Will Smith) may be the last human alive after a man-made plague wiped out cities of humans and turned them into flesh eating zombies. Robert is close to finding a cure but struggles to keep alive as the zombies evolve. This is one of the few zombie films I have enjoyed - apart from the tragic death of (SPOILER ALERT) his best friend and canine companion.

8. Mean Girls; Mark Waters (2004) Click here to see trailer

This isn't your usual American teen flick, written by Tina Fay you can expect her original sense of humour and some interesting cinematography. Young girl Cady Heron (Lindsey Lohan) moves to the states and attends high school for the first time, after being home-schooled by her scientist parents in Africa. After making friends with the school 'weirdos' they scheme a plan to have Cady become one of the 'Plastics' - the schools most popular and nasty girls. This film has surprisingly good morals and a twist ending.
