Foodie's Dream

This list combines my two favourite things; films and food.

1. Chef; Jon Favreau Click here to see trailer

Do not watch this movie if you are on a diet! When controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman) refuses to let chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) experiment and release his spectacular new menu, he quits. But not without a lot of drama involving an infamous food critic and Twitter. With the help of his ex-wife, son, and best friend co-chef, he travels America in their shabby food truck eating, drinking and cooking - and becoming increasingly popular in the foodie world. This film is the definition of feel-good, not to mention the most epic grilled cheese sandwich scene ever.

2. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs; Chris Miller Click here to see trailer

We've all dreamt about something like this happening, it rains our favourite food! Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) is a endlessly nerdy and failed inventor, who is well known in his small town - which can only eat sardines - as being trouble. But all this changes when he invents a machine which makes tasty treats fall from the sky with the push of a button. The food grows bigger and bigger, eventually becoming very hazardous!

3. American Psycho; Mary Harron Click here to see trailer

Although not as obviously about food, this film features a lot of talk about fancy New York City restaurants and fine dining. Handsome and professional businessman Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) uses his charm to graphically murder anyone who disgusts him, but that doesn't stop him from spending thousands on quality food, and his obsessive beauty regime.

4. Ratatouille; Brad Bird and Jan Pinkava Click here to see trailer

Remy (Patton Oswalt) lives in Paris and appreciates, and creates, fine food with his sophisticated palate. The only problem is, Remy is a rat. With much persuasion he convinces a struggling human chef to let him 'help out' around the fine dining kitchen he lives beneath.

5. The Five-Year Engagement; Nicholas Stoller Click here to see trailer

Sous chef Tom (Jason Segal) and his girlfriend Violet (Emily Blunt) become engaged, and from the very start it seems their relationship is constantly thwarted. Every time the couple try to set a date, something goes wrong and it becomes harder for Tom to make his dream of owning a food truck come true.

6. Today's Special; David Kaplan Click here to see trailer
Another feel-good food comedy, very similar to Chef, but instead this is about Indian food. You can almost smell the spices seeping out of the screen, and you will crave a piping hot vindaloo. Samir (Aasif Madvi) is a budding sous chef, who begrudgingly quits his job to travel to Paris. When his dad has a heart attack, these plans are put on hold as Samir now has to run the family restaurant which is failing miserably.

7. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; Tim Burton Click here to see trailer

It's the classic tale, made even more magical and strange by the winning combination of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore) and his grandfather win the chance to visit the infamous and mysterious chocolate factory run by Willy Wonka. This film is eccentric, eery and of course, delicious.

8. Julie and Julia; Nora Ephron Click here to see trailer
This is the story of the famous and jolly cook Julia Child (Meryl Streep), and her number one fan and blogger Julie Powell (Amy Adams). Julie's life is boring her, so she decides to spice things up by starting a blog in which she aims to cook every recipe from Julia's legendary book in one year. This sweet comedy had my mouth drooling and eyes watering for the delicious treats the pair cook up, and the melt downs the pair endure.
